The Strength Block will use...
• heavier spring loads • lower repetitions • controlled tempo • intentional recovery • progressive overload principles
Rather than relying primarily on higher repetitions and lighter resistance, this block will place a greater focus on producing force output and developing true muscular strength through heavier load, lower repetitions and progressive challenge.
You’ll notice the springs may feel significantly heavier than what we would traditionally use at Tempo, that is intentional. The reps should feel challenging right from rep one.
We will be using a Building Set protocol where you will complete four working sets of the same movement pattern. As your working time decreases, the resistance will progressively increase each set.
Each strength exercise will also be paired in a superset formation, allowing one muscle group to recover while another works before returning to increase the load again.
As fatigue builds, movement speed may naturally slow down and the final reps may not look perfectly polished, this is a normal and expected part of strength training.
The focus will be on...
• mind-muscle connection • maintaining control under load • producing force with intention • safely pushing close to muscular fatigue
Each day of the week will feature a dedicated Strength Block superset repeated consistently across the four-week cycle, allowing members to progressively refine technique, increase load and build strength week to week.
Weeks 1–2
Focus on technique, movement quality and confidence with heavier resistance.
Weeks 3–4
Increase load, intensity and strength adaptation.
Research consistently shows that strength gains are heavily influenced by weekly training volume and repeated exposure to challenging working sets. This is why consistency across the four weeks matters.

It's time to get even stronger at Tempo 🔥
At Tempo, strength has always been part of what we do.
Our classes have never been about movement for the sake of movement. They’ve always been intentionally programmed to build strong, capable bodies through stability, mobility, endurance, control and intelligent resistance training.
Throughout June, we’ll be evolving our programming even further by introducing The Stronger Project; a dedicated Strength Block in every class, every day of the week.
Importantly, this does not mean we are moving away from the dynamic style of Reformer Pilates our members know and love. You’ll still experience the Tempo flow, mobility work, core integration and controlled movement patterns that define our method.
We are simply layering in a more intentional pure strength component.

Scientifically, strength is defined as:
“The ability of a muscle or group of muscles to produce force against resistance.”
In simple terms strength is your body’s ability to handle load, and handle it well!
